Default Running light fuse keeps blowing

On the right side of my 96XJ6 the running-parking light 5 amp fuse keeps on blowing. Sometimes it takes a couple of weeks, sometimes a couple of hours to blow.

I can always tell it is gone when I unlock or lock the car, the lights always flash on both sides if the fuse is good.

I think I had read on the forum that the wiring loom on the trunk hinge can be a problem. The other problem I have is that the license plate lights are missing I was thinking it could be shorting out there also. I will be replacing the complete license plate light assembly with one from the car I am parting out.

Are we referencing the Right Engine Fuse Box position # 18 as it shows a 10 amp fuse

If I understand the illustration right it looks like #18 is a 5amp and #17 above it is a 30amp. I don't know where the #10 comes from. I used to wonder if there was a running change on this fuse from a 5 to a 10amp, I have an early 96.

I think the problem might be in the license plate light. When I bought the car it was missing one of the clear plastic housings and the other one did not work. Since then the other one fell off (how that happened I have no idea). I need to get into the trunk and see if I have a wire either at the missing clear housings or a damaged wire at the hinge on the right side.

The 10 amp reference comes from the Technical Guide page 21 other then the Wiring Schematic that as they probably added more on to the circuit they put more horsepower into the fuse

There was a switchover from a 2 lamp control modual in early X300's to a single

Yes on the hinge damage as I have read alot of occurrences
