Coming up to an intersection and looking to turn, slowing down, entering turning lane, thought the car in front was going, looked opposite way to check traffic coming, looked back saw car infront stopped. Could not stop in time

Front guard screwed.
bonnet buckled.
bumper messed up.
headlight bracket shattered.
headlight surround trim snapped in 2.

hope not too much damage underneath.

great way to start a road trip.

Commiserations
Very sad and very honest to admit how it happened.

Did something similar failing to spot a give way sign many years ago while thinking too hard about the next part of the route, having gone into an area I wasn’t familiar with.

I hope you are able to get the XJ back on the road without too much financial and other trauma

Yeah sounds very much the same.
I was somewhere I had never been, on my way to somewhere else I had never been.

It sucks and it hurts to admit I f***Ed up and crashed, but can't hide behind it.
Just shows a momentary lapse in concentration or diverted concentration can have bad results.

The financial trauma will be costly but I think it's all cosmetic damage. The car drives well. Pulled the guard out a little to stop it scraping on the wheel.
Hardest part will be making my led headlights again and getting them aligned.

The emotional trauma is a different story. It hurts when I look at my car ATM cus I am so unhappy and think "what a bloody idiot"

Sorry to hear that. Yeah, I had an accident in my XK8 a few weeks back from an idiot driver pulling out in front of me, me swerving, doing two 360s, and hitting a fence. When all was set and done, it was about 8K. I had some similar damage on my old XJ6. They tried to repair the hood and could never get it right. Don't let them repair it; just replace it if you can. PM me and let me know what you are looking for, and I can see what I can find as long as it is nothing big because shipping will be a bear.

Ohh, that hurts. Good on the honesty about the accident, all too rare these days. Hey, that alone qualifies for a free repair.... Well, dreams are free. Seriously, that's a beautiful Jag, and hopefully can be on the road again very soon and with not too much of a hit in the wallet. On a positive note, the front fender does not look like it's lost its alignment with the door, so door pillar/hinge area etc should still be aligned and good.
Just thinking out loud, not sure this'll work... but in terms of getting replacement OEM parts off another "parked" Jag, wondering if it'd be just better to pick up a whole parts car from 95 or so. Then, lots of spare bits and bobs for future maintenance. Depends upon cost of the individual replacement items and a place to store the parts car.

Thanks mate. Trying a few options ATM. Might have a few leads for parts. Getting a few contacts for parts so for these things should hopefully be able to find them.
Couple of options that are interstate.
There is one local wrecker but his prices are huge.

I think the bumper is OK but the chrome trim is buckled. Can maybe get that fixed enough. (Depends on cost to replace I suppose)
Just the paint or rewrap alone is a large amount of $$$$.
Money I was hoping to spend on parts I want, and upgrades I want, not parts I need.
But oh well.
Can't do anything about it now except cry and fix it

Ouch!

Looks to be panel and trim only and not sufficient to have done any suspension damage but still it won't be cheap to fix. Unfortunately those bumper chromes never straighten out successfully.

Good luck.

yeah alignment still seems good.
guard was slightly catching on door, but it just needed a little pull.
from what i can tell at this point there appears to be no damage underneath.
i will look out for a parts car but it is not easy to find over here.

yeah its a big shame about the chrome being damaged as the bumper itself otherwise has retained its shape.

So……
I have a conundrum atm…. In regards to paint….

So i need to get the front repaired……

Re-wrap the bonnet, guard, bumper, gunna cost maybe $1500.

Would be nice to take the opportunity to respray the whole car, but, that is huge expense.

now i have always loved amaranth purple. And wanted to do the car that colour.

however that is a huge expense.
colour change respray would cost me maybe $10k to $15k or more.

the car is originally topaz colour and i do like that colour however find it a little boring.
so was wondering if there is a way to paint it gold so i can save money and do a closed door respray,
however add a little something to make it pop.
a glitter in the paint or a pearl in the paint pr something.
i was playing around with AI and cam across this colour.

at the same time i really love how the matte charcoal wrap makes the car look and don’t want to compromise on that either.
so i dunno.

what are peoples different thoughts?

Too bad about the bump, but an easy mistake to make. You are not the first to do it, and won’t be the last.
As for colour, it is definitely a case of each to their own, beauty being in the eye of the beholder etc. Do what makes you feel good.

Colour is entirely subjective and I like the look of Amaranth Purple on the X300 ...... BUT ....... that's a huge amount of money to put into the vehicle. You will never get it back and a colour change usually makes a vehicle harder to sell. Depends on whether it's a keeper or you intend to change.

I think amaranth purple is the best jag colour.
just expensive to colour change.

The car is also def a keeper.

when the wreckers want $2500 for a bumper, $275 for a headlight, $500 for a bumper and $400 for a guard.
plus 10% gst.
thats $4000 just in repair parts.
then still gotta add paint.

jeez insurance sure would have written the girl
off.
makes a tiny accident a very very costly expense.
can potentially get my hands on a car for $6000 that would be a huge investment as a parts car.
