Why on earth they didn't borrow GM's 4L60E tranny [:-] . 5 spped always better over 4 ? I don't think so

because jag tranny are made and contracted to ZF Germany, on eof the lading transmission company inthe WORLD, even BMW and other top of the line brands uses this brand.

So what kind of trans does the X300 XJR use? Is it also a ZF until? I remember the XJ40's used a GM trans did they not?

They did not. The only Jag to use a GM trans was the XJS 5.3's. The others are ZF and Adwest.

Hi Ken-

Is it that the ZF trans is a 4L80E with a different pan and bell housing? I thoughtI had read that the X300'shad used a 4L80E or a variant of.

I don't know for sure. Will see if I can find out tomorrow. I just have them listed as 95-97 transmissions. We sell used ones for $400. The damn things never fail. We have 18 of them.

The X300 XJR/v12 use GM 4L80E, as does the XJ40 v12 (=XJ81). It is a great unit, realible and strong. The later v8-XJR use a Benz gearbox, the same as in the MB 600-serier. Not the best of boxes.

And the 6.0 Litre XJSs used the 4L80E as well. Earlier V12s used the old "TH400"
