Spark plug tube seal
Hi,
The last time I changed my plugs in my xj6 and xjs (both 4.0) I had some oil on the plugs. Now that I have some time I would like to change the seals and of course the valve cover gaskets. I have never taken off the valve cover on these engines, which will not be a problem, so I am not sure of how to get the plug seals out.
Can someone please explain this to me and of course a picture would be quite valuable.
Thanks!
Jomo

Just pluck 'em off the bottom of the cam cover after you remove it. You may need an o-ring pick if the previous installation used a sealant as recommended by Grant, myself, and many others. Don't be surprised if you find the seal-lands aren't perfectly round anymore. Here's some reading and pics to get you going:

I changed the valve cover gasket and plug seals today. I originally had no idea where to find the plug rings but aholbro1 images made it clear where to find them. Of course I would have seen them as soon as I took off the valve cover. The whole job took just over 30 minutes. It was so much fun that I will be doing the job all over again on my 95 xj6.
