Default steering column tilt gear friction adjustment

anyone know how to properly adjust these two bolts which adjust the tension on the gear and worm screw for the tilt function of the steering wheel. seems a bit tricky to get it just so between binding and alot of up and down loose play in the tilt mechanisim.

If I remember correctly, each of the screws has a washer that acts as a shim. As long as you put them back as they were, the mechanism will be set properly

and i thought only old corvettes used monkey spunk and shims to get on the road. well between the three columns i've had on the bench i'll never find the originals. guess i'll just find out as time and miles go by if i got it close.
