Hello All,

Problem of the month: My steering wheel telescopes freely with some play in the tilt mechanism as well. Any solutions?

I see I can buy an entire used steering column on EBay for about $200. Looks easier to swap out the entire unit as it would be to tear down the old and try to replace whatever is causing the issue?

Chip, I dont have the answer but let me try to help summarize things to help you get there.

Seems the issue boils down to:

How hard is it to replace steering column vs. How hard is it to replace broken nylon strip that provides the force for telescoping.

Chip, do either or both tilt/telescope motors work from what you can hear?

Now about that replacement column:

Does a replacement steering column come with these motors?

How about turn signal assembly and or wipers? What features do you now have, do they have to be moved to new steering column?

Like I said, I've never gotten into replacing a steering column, hope these ideas help you stay on track. Chip, maybe it would help if you post the Ebay link, your call.

Individual parts for the 'reach' are not available to repair your column.
The plastic/nylon gear strips and the steel worm gear has nothing to grip.

I would suggest a good-used replacement.

There are other units available that are more complete than these but the rest of my column works fine.
