stereo short?
I've done some searching and haven't come up with anything
like this. Figured I'd post it out there to see if anyone
has any experience with a possible short in the stereo head
unit.
I've got a '95 XJ6 VDP with the base stereo. Only two of
the door speakers put out sound and only two of the tweeters
put out sound. The driver's door speaker/dash tweeter and
the rear passenger door speaker/rear deck tweeter are the
only ones that work.
I was thinking maybe the speakers were blown so I removed
the door panels off one of the speakers that work and one of
the speakers that don't. The speakers look fine. I swapped
the one that works with the one that doesn't, and the
problem is specific to the relative location.
Let's say the speaker in the driver's door works, but the
speaker in the driver's side rear door does not. I swapped
the two and the driver's door still works and the rear door
still does not. The speaker, when connected, gets pulled
back. I thought maybe the wires got reversed so I switched
them, the speaker then just gets pushed out. I'm thinking
there's a short and only the negative or positive feed is
making it to the speaker.
So next I was thinking of pulling the head unit and checking
it for wiring problems and/or shorts. I need to fix the
clock anyway. Has anyone ever experienced this?
