Switch for antenna

Switch for antenna
Hey All.
I have a 1995 basic XJ6 that I bought new and now has 220K miles. I also just bought a 1996 VDP with 98,500 miles.
I put a switch on the antenna on the '95 so that the antenna would not cycle except when I was listening to the radio. I cut the green/black wire on the main radio harness at the back of the radio. No problem.
So I wanted to do the same thing with the '96. But when I did the same procedure the system would not power up without the antenna switch closed. This car has the premium system with the HK amp in the trunk. This makes no sense to me.
How I'm thinking of putting the antenna on a separate switched circuit.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

new info
Hey All,
I'm adding to my original question. I looked up the wiring diagram to the antenna. I saw that the green/black wire to the antenna branched off to the HK amp before the antenna. So I moved the switch back to the antenna area. And all is well now.
Sometime when I'm bored I'll run a wire from the antenna switch into the cabin. I rarely listen to regular radio.
I have an FM modulator installed so with my iPhone I can listen to my music mixes and Pandora radio.
