Default thinking of a sunroof delete

i’ve got a 1996 xjr that’s in deep project car territory and i’ve been thinking of removing the sunroof and just welding a new panel on there. i need to do some rust work at the same time so i don’t have any more leaks. would y’all recommend this?

I think a competent jaguar / restoration shop with good body metal work skills could do a great job on this .

I had considered getting a fixed glass panel made to go in the metal sliding roofs place and to keep the head lining and just manually open the interior slider .

sort of the intent of it is kept but it can’t even open or get stuck .

as it were I was able to get mine fully working so I did not follow this path.

I think it’s a great idea what your suggesting but any welding to a roof needs incredible skill not to warp things and make a considerable mess .

You might consider fixing the panel in place and sealing it well. Then you can replace the headliner and cover the opening while also improving headroom.
