Default toying with the idea of rearview parking camera and display...

hi all,

I am toying with the idea of installing a rearview parking camera and I am debating which display to use.. I am looking for something very discrete & OEM looking, so size and placement is important. I don't intend to drill down a mount and attach a display on the dash

the rearview camera style I am looking at is something similar that closely matches the OEM rear license plate lights:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/270606005294

and here are my display choices:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/270905244097

or

http://www.ebay.com/itm/140328050966 (puts me over my intended $100 all inclusive budget)

then there's always this:

www.ebay.com/itm/190491763509 (but I will lose my auto-dimming and compass feature)

what are your thoughts/recommendations on a discrete display install? where would you recommend the display to be installed? I've been examining the interior and just cannot find a suitable place... I am only going to be using it for parking purposes, so it doesn't have to have the latest and clearest video technology/ or sound, etc .. basically just looking for feedback/advice from those of you who may have previously installed RVCs on your x300s or other cars

The idea is still at the initiation stage .. haven't got to the planning/designing phase yet

Honestly, I think one of the nicer things about our cars is how easy they are to see out of. Blind spots are easy to see/check, and while backing up could/can be a gamble I don't think it necessary to install a camera.

If your plan on putting a back up camera comes to fruition, may I suggest the option that changes the car least? My vote is for the rear view mirror replacement. Loss of the auto dim sucks, but I didn't realize that markets outside of the US got a compass.

Because there is no proper place to insert a camera I didn't use such gadgets in Jags . So, I have an idea for 4.3 portable camera , you can try where I marked for you .
Mirror camera should be plausible too assuming Bugatti Veyron comes with that gadget as well lol

^^^^ that location is not safe and won't work because of the passenger airbag

looks like the mirror style, or visor are my only choices if I don't want to change the OEM look of the interior

The viewing screen for the camera won't be in use all the time that you are in the car so how about a fold-away unit fitted to the underside of the extension panels fitted to either side of the steering wheel?

^^^ that's a good idea... something similar to this:

Mini 4.3" TFT LCD Rear view Monitor for rear car camera | eBay

but since the display will be mounted upside down, I will have to figure out a way for display to show the output upside down as well ...

Has there been any further development on your rear view camera? I've become dependent on mine in the daily driver. Since I'll be replacing the radio, I thought of a radio with video capability such as this
