Default TRAC FAIL and TRAC OFF

Hey guys, got an annoying issue with my '96 XJR6. I adjusted the throttle cable on the actuator-to-engine side (was trying to take some play out of the accelerator pedal and didn't know about the pedal-to-actuator cable until later), now I have TRAC FAIL and TRAC OFF on the dash. These come on a few seconds after starting, but the car behaves as if traction control is ON. How can I fix this? Thanks.

It sounds like you have taken the throttle relaxer (or actuator as you describe it) mechanism out of range. There are heaps of posts here about throttle cable adjustment, which you should follow, as it is not entirely intuitive. The throttle relaxer is an integral part of the traction control system.

Thanks for your reply, I've read the official procedure but I find it really hard to follow. I might just take the car in somewhere to get looked at... I think I've done too much already!

Yea you think you have it.....37 miles down the road it comes back on. However, as soon as you stop it resets for another 37 miles. I gave up and just deal with it. Good luck in finding anyone. You have to find an old Jag mechanic. A Jag dealer you will think you have it fixed until you go 37 miles and it comes back on

Its not that hard of a fix. Its almost always the power pin solder joints on the ABS module. Here is how I fixed mine on my XJ12. 2 years later and about 5K miles and no more trac fail and trac off light https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r8WLsl...ature=youtu.be

Nope have done all of that and still broke. Mine has to do with the proper setting for the actuator and the correct setting of the throttle cable. I can't get it right. I know I caused the issue but just can't get it right.

Well I purchased a complete parts car from an insurance auto auction. Next week I have off so going to replace the complete traction control with all the throttle cables and such and hope that fixes my problem. On another note if you are looking for something special let me know. The back seat are like new and there is no rust on the car. Just has hail damage

I may be misinformed but when I fiddled with mine the corroded wires from the actuator to the abs shorted and once i knock off the crappy insulation and recovered the wires with some slit insulation from some scrap and wraped with elec. tape no more dash lights.

ps- steering column reach and tilt assmbly? need one. exhst manifolds? body module, seat modules?

With my parts care replaced the actuator and all the throttle cables. Cut the wires with the crappy insulation, put shrink tubing on it, all my error codes are gone. Now to take it for a long trip to ensure it does not come back after 37miles
