Default Trans ID

So a car buddy of mine says that he thinks the transmission in my 97xj6 might be a TH400. Does anyone know if this is the case? If not what is it?

i dont think so, by 97 all jags had 4 or more speeds. a th400 has only 3 speeds, but it could be a GM 4L80E,very strong tranny, 4th is an overdrive. with lockup convertor.

The regular X300/XJ6 used a ZF trans (electronic with the 4.0 litre, non-electronic on the 3.2)

The V12 models and the XJR models used the GM 4L80E, as mentioned. This trans is essentially a 400 with and o'drive fourth gear added.

Many older Jaguars with the V12 used the old 400, though, from mid-77 until about 1993

Cheers
