Trouble recharging 95 XJ6 AC
I've looked at tons of places, and this seems to be the right spot to ask-
My AC worked fine last year, and early this spring- but now it just blows hot air. It seems to be slightly cooler than ambient temperature- but not by much.
I tried two different freon cans today, to try to refill my unit. Neither can seemed to be able to get a complete seal over the low pressure port. The first, cheaIper one I used would dispense, but it would just spray straight up. I tried dispensing while pushing the coupling down, but it still did the same thing.
The second can, ACPRO, that I see on tv and the internet all the time, would not dispense. It came with a built in gauge, to measure the pressure... but I couldn't get a good enough seal to even register. Tried two different cans, after 15 minutes each, not a drop seemed to dispense.
To me, and the guy at the store that came out to help me... the coupling doesn't seem to be quite long enough; to all the "pin" to move the little ball bearing to allow charging, on the port. I don't know the technical terms for these things... sorry. In other words, it seems that I need a special attachment... Is this true, or am I just stupid; or missing something obvious?
I'm pretty sure that I am using the correct low pressure port- I have two others, but they are perhaps half the size, and should be high pressure ones. The coupling is too large for the other two. I am using a port on the passenger side, by the front of the bonnet.
thanks for any advice

probably system is clogged. expansion valve malfunction? i suggest you go to a place that has the ways of testing your cooling system, anything here would be probable causes, guesses.
like mike said its a tad more to go to the specialist and if it doesnt refill they will tell you whats wrong and wont charge you for trying.

won't do you any good to just add coolent, you need to pull a vacuum in the system.that takes a pump.and when you recharge the system its best too add some refrigerent oil as well. when the a/c bleeds down over the months or years ,it takes the lube oil with it.
