Default Tyre recommendation

Some of you know that I am a newbie here, that I picked up a 97 VDP from my family in Chicago after it was replaced by a new M-B.

For whatever reason my folks decided that a permanent set of winter tyres would be best. Of course, they're wrong. By the time winter rolls around here in the DC Metro area, those will probably be about done.

So, my apologies if this is a repost, but I'd like to get recommendations for all-season tyres for my new acquisition. All input is appreciated!

Cheers,
Diane

This just came up in the XJ40 section. See the talk over there, all have 16" wheels after 1993 and require the same size tires.

Rubber and lubrication....that's what cars are all about.

Dunlop gets my vote . I too hear some good reviews on Michelin Hydroedge . I don't recommend Pirelli because you get a harsh aride with them

Yokohama's seem to be the favorite on Tire Rack, and they are reasonably priced at $89 each. I also looked at Borbet TypeB wheels and those look good too, $119 each. Guess I know what I'm buying myself for Christmas this year!

I dunno , I heard complaints from the brand .Whenanybody says Pirelli I just remember the calendar lol . AS I recall, S Type comes with the Pirelli tires and a few persons whom I talked just said it was just a crap one .
XJR too comes with the Pirelli and what's said if it was Michelin instead you would get a softer ride .I think that's mostlya personal preference .

Shame on you for relying on hearsay![sm=icon_stickpoke.gif]

I've enjoyed Bridgestones and Pirelli's on my cars and BF Goodrich on my truck (I had a GMC Sierra 2500 that I used to haul a race car and a horse trailer).

I've never used Yokohama's or Kumo's, I've always thought of them as "ricer" tyres, but after reading the reviews on the Yoko's I'm willing to give them a chance.

Really ? I don't think so .Then by this logic you should never read reviews on particular stuffs as you don't test them by yourself

A Joke?? Trust me, they don't do jokes well in here...

I'd recomend any major brand quality tire, You can't go wrong with say, Perelli, Firestone, Good Year or BF Goodrich. Over all they're pretty much the same and it usually comes down to price. I happen to have been stuck with a set of Dean tires on my XJ and I hate them louder than my Cherokee with all season Michlins... Doh.

I was told the atmosphere was quite the opposite; that I was joining a forum of jovial folks. I see now that is not the case. What a shame. [sm=boosign.gif]

Hey Wldcat......I loved your stick poking at Caddie, thought it was hilarious......I dont think he took it bad, its just his way of speaking / typing......once you see a few of his posts you'll see what I mean....lol
I dont think I ever saw him take offence or give it for that matter.

+1 on everything jim just said. Xj40ish is usually good for a joke too, but he's been a little mad since Ebay did him in. He'll come round though!
