Smile Update on Throttle position sensor

I'm sure some of you are waiting to hear the results of my search for a less expensive TPS for the 4.0L X300. I thought the unit from the Ford Scorpio was my best bet. But with the help from Mark and a new Ford Scorpio unit in hand I lost that bet. The Scorpio unit does not rotate in the same direction.

But I am still not giving up and I am open to any other suggestions.

One thing I have tried on my car has helped and I would suggest for anyone having a stalling problem to try it. I use my car as a daily driver and do not have a frequent stalling problem. But I do want to have a good solution when it becomes frequent. What I do is every few days I go in and rotate the butterfly valve on the throttle body a bunch of times without the engine running. I think this may clean the contacts in the TPS somewhat. Since I have been doing that I have not had a stall. But that has only been for a short time.

I'll keep everyone informed as to any progress and I look forward to hearing from anyone on this subject.

Thanks for listening

I have added a link to this thread at the end of the last one on this subject (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-sensor-89513/). Otherwise it will be very hard to follow and find a solution, years from now.

Apart from rotation direction are the two sensors identical (mounting holes, throttle spindle, resistance value, angle of rotation from stop to stop)?
Is it possible to fit the Ford sensor upside down to overcome the mechanical rotation problem?

Sorry it did not work out. At least that settles it with the Scorpio TPS.

There is a solution but you won't like it - two equal toothed nylon gears, one mounted on the guts of the original TPS and one on the Ford one.

Once I found the rotation different I didn't go any further other that external observation. The mounting for the spinal is not the same. Looks like the spinal on the Scorpio is a half round spinal. And the mounting hole does not go all the way through. It would be quite a job to mount it unside down with a major modification to the spinal hole. If I don't come up with something else I might look at that.
