Default Wanting to switch out wheels on my 96 xj6 vanden plas

I'm wanting to swap out the original wheels on my 96 vanden plas. I am wanting to use newer wheels off 1998-2003 xj8. My wheels are 16 inch and the wheels I'd like are 16 inch. I was told that I couldn't just switch the wheels???? I was told it wouldn't work? Will any newer style xj8 wheel work on my car? I want to use my existing center cap and lug nuts. I just want to swap out to newer wheels. Is this
possible?

The X308 VDP wheels with hub cap/bolt covers will work.
The bearings are different for the front on the X308.
The X300 hubs are longer.

I have 16" X308/XJ8 wheels on my X300/XJR.

Everything was fine *except* the dust caps on the front hubs were a bit too large for the center holes of the XJ8 wheels. A little field modification with a hammer and a blunt chisel was needed to reshape the dust caps a bit. Ten minutes work for each front dust cap.

Cheers

Not without taking the wheel off....and the car is 32 mies away at the moment.

There's a tin dust cap that covers the front wheel bearings. The shape of the dust cap interferes with the center hold of the wheel. The tin dust dust cap just need to be (bluntly speaking) beaten a bit to re-shape it.

Can I use my existing lugs?

I'm 99% sure that I used my X300 lugnuts with the X308 wheels.

Cheers

Default 16 inch wheels

Do I understand you put 16 inch wheels on your x300/xjr? I have the original 17 inch wheel on my 97 x300/xjr and I'm considering new wheels/tires. I'm wondering what and if I should put 16 on my x300/xjr. I had a 96 Vanden Plas that I put the 10 slot 16 inch wheel with a center hubcap originally off of the xj8 on my x300 and I LOVED those wheels. I'm wondering if I should do the 17 inch "solar" wheel on my x300/xjr or putting the 16 inch 10 slot, same I had on my Vanden Plas. Any help you give me or advice would greatly be appreciated. I'm not a speed racer by any means, I drive like a old person in a Jaguar, lol. I just like a nice ride. I dont want to be fighting the car either by making it "sloppy". Make sense?

I'm wondering what you think of the cars handeling using the 16 inch wheel. Are the brakes on a x300/XJR bigger? Will I need to take into consideration any of that when deciding between the 16 or 17 inch version of the "solar" wheel?
