weirdo Jag thing
Been driving Jags for thirty years. Currently I have two X-300s.
The 1996 VDP does an odd thing in that when I open the rear driver's side door I begin to hear a rapid "clicking" sound until the door is closed. At times the front overhead courtesy light blinks on and off to the same pulse as the clicking. I've seen lots of odd Jag behaviors but never that.
Has anyone out there got ideas?
Many thanks.

HA.
NORMAL X300 behaviour.
Inside the lock is a TINY micro switch that operates the interior light relay, and it goes hissy with age, and does not complete the earth circuit 100%, so the relay is confused, so "chatters".
Others, and myself, have removed the lock from the door, fun, and carefully removed the tiny rubber cover from the switch plunger ( I seriously doubt you will get that cover back on, so a dob of grease seals the thing OK), and I have used "electrical contact cleaner" and worked that switch about 1000 times. Testing every now and then with an ohm meter, until decent readings are given, then some WD40 sprayed inside the switch, back in the car, more fun, and wait another 15 years then do it all again.

Mine does that, also. But the sound is definitely coming from the drivers seat, and the lights work fine. It sounds like the old Lucas fuel pump of the 60's. If I have the drivers door open the sound does not occur, and it stops after about 20 sec. Closing the door and opening again immediately there is no sound.

On the blink, huh Sogood? Lol.
Those switches can be repaired as Grant says, for those with time up their sleeves! The intermittent switch causes the dome light relay to freak out (behind the left heelboard). Seen it in two of mine. The 12 has three of the four doors acting up.
I've got your quick solution: Pull the "puddle" light bulb from the bottom of the offending door. End of story. Dome lights still work properly. Better to be short a few door lights than to have that disco vertigo clicking light show... very Un-sophisticated! Leave the bulbs out until such a time that a repair can be made. For me, it is at the Bottom of the to-do list!
