My drivers inside door handle is loose, but completely functional. I took off the trim and could see the small spring that is broken. So I bought this spring on ebay, which was labeled for a loose door handle, 94 - 2002 x300/x308...

Its way too big to be the inside door handle return spring... Is this instead the return spring for the outside handle?

Yes that is an outside handle return spring. See pic.
