Most agree the the X300/XJ6s are one of Jaguar's best efforts. They have a good reputation for durability and reliability. And if you're a DIY person you can keep one on the road for surprisingly little money as far as high end luxury cars go.
There's little to worry about with respect to the engine or transmission. With some care they'll soldier on for ages.
Brakes, cooling system, climate control, alternator, starter, fuel injection system, and electrical system are generally reliable...as reliable as any other car, let's say.
Differentials are known to give trouble, as do rear wheel bearings. Listen for growls/rumbles.
Suspension bushings and shocks often show wear starting at about 100k miles....listen for clunks/knocks.
Radios and clock often fail, as does the "memory" function of electric seats. Ditto the tilt/travel function of the steering column.
Others will chime in with more.
As good as they are these X300s are reaching the age/mileage where some problems will naturally start creeping up....and they're at the age/value point where owners start "letting things go". Watch out for neglected cars. A well kept Jaguar is a purring kitten that will reward you every time you slide behind the wheel. A neglected Jaguar is an unforgiving bitch that could care less if you live or die.
Check service records. Some Jags have been lovingly waxed every month for their entire lives but never really cared for mechanically.
But...OTOH...low market value means you can shop for an extra nice, extra-pampered example and still be wayyyy under $10k.
Cheers

Aholbro1,
Some really usefull links embedded here, Ive just gone through them and realised more issues with more car
A good and bad thing but I will be glad to get it right
Maybe an idea to put this thread as a "sticky"
All,
This seems to the most popular & knowledgeable X300 forum I beleive
