Default Whatcha think?

Dont know if anyone has done it? But im thinking of painting my grill flat black, and possibly the trim around the windows. What do you guys think? Kinda iffy since there is so much chrome on the car....Was thinking of painting the cat black with red eyes I dont think it would go good with just that black and not ALL the chrome black.......If anything i might just do the grill.....

I think this cat is beautiful just the way it is. It's already different from the regular XJ series, and there aren't a lot of these XJR's out there so it kinda stands alone as is. I've seen cars painted black with red accents. didn't do anything for me! Just my opinion!

For the USA cars it's jut the grille, the grille surround, trunk plinth, wheels, sports seats, and dark wood trim. Oh....and no brightwork around the tail lights.

Other markets had black window trim where the USA cars had the bright trim as found on the non-XJR models

Cheers

You crazy.

My XJ-Sport has the stock black trims and I wish it had more more chrome. Maybe you and I should swap trims

In the UK the XJ Sport had black grille inserts and black window surrounds:

I always thought it looked a bit bland compared with my chromed X308.

There's a newer XJ model here on base, in BRG, and his grill looks a lot like the XJR. His is painted to match, including the mesh behind the grill, and I can't say it looks any better than if it was chrome. The black grill might look nice, but I'd leave the window trim and bumper trim alone.

I like the black grille inserts, that could work on his black XJR...

Black inserts were very popular on early X300's in the UK just as body coloured ones had been on the earlier XJ40 and then the fashion moved to chrome.

If it's rare in the US then that seems a good reason to consider doing it.

Black vanes in a black/coloured surround would look horrible, there's no contrast. Black/coloured vanes in a chrome surround can look quite good (as in the case of the XJ-Sport). I think the best thing for your car is to leave the bright mesh alone. You might end up looking like a boy racer and come to regret it. Right now you have a classy car. I guess the grille inserts are easy to revert, but think twice before trying to coat any trims, replacements aren't cheap.

And also body colour vanes like my UK XJ-Sport has.

But yeah, most of all I like the full bright trim package like the XJ12 and Daimler spec X305s came with. As close to Series 3 levels of chrome as possible.

There is an actual video of a guy blacking out his VDP or XJR (cant remember) and the chrome window trim. It didn't look bad but it gets rid of the classy look of the jag. Its on youtube, ill try to find it.
