Default Wheel/Rim Refinishing Tutorial

I purchased some XJR wheels for my Jaguar in the signature picture below as when I bought it those BMW wheels came with it.
I had a tough time finding a decent set close by.

I finally found someone 45 mins away from me with all 5. Sadly only 1 is in mint condition; the spare. The others have various stages of the eye-sore clear coat peel, and will need refinishing for sure.

I checked out some local companies who provide this service, and at $150 per wheel, plus the cost of all new rubber, I decided I will attempt the labour-intensive process myself over this winter.

I scoured the Net and found this tutorial and thought I would share with you all.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the really well made tutorial. Most are much more amateur

I'm a big fan of DIY and have considered DIY wheel refinishing, but particularly since there is gold painted finishes on the XJR wheel in the cutouts and around the hub, I almost think it would be worth having it professionally done. It is $600 though.

...particularly given the cost of the materials and time invested, which the instructions above estimate at 2-3 hours per wheel just to sand/prep.

But if you have the time and don't plan to repaint the gold accents, might be a good winter project.

Although, it might be nice to choose to replace the gold accents with a matching color to your car

Nice tutorial, thanks for sharing.

There really is something to be said for DIYing this particular job

Apart from the money saved, there's real satisfaction to be had
