I have seen a number of manuals for the auto transmissions and they say that the gearbox takes 8 litres of Dextron. I just drained mine after checking is was full and only about 2 litres came out. I also dropped the pan off and renewed the filter, so I know I have got as much out as I can.


I bought 12 litres in all as the power steering needed topping up and I like to keep some in "stock". I now have 10 or so left........a bit more stock than I was aiming for.


Any ideas?

Most of the transmission fluid is held in the torque converter, not the pan.

What most people do is repeat the drain-and-refill process 5 or 6 times with a few miles of driving in between.
