Default X300 bodyshell

I notice an eBay seller selling brand new bodyshells listed as being for X300s and X308s. Do both models use an identical shell or are there modifications on the later cars that would make it difficult to reshell an X300?

Please don't tell us that you need to reshell the XJR.

At best, it is going to be quite a task.

But looking at your signature, I guess that you would be up for it.

Any pics/vids links to your modded Manta? It must be quite a beast.

Nooooooooo I have no need whatsoever, just thinking that as a project it would be a great one - I like a challenge - and what better way to iron out any foibles than to start from nothing! The only thing that worries me is that there are more systems and bits in the Jag than in all the cars I've ever built put together I think!

I've been dry building the Manta for 8 years and its now in bits to start the proper engineering - moving the steering (rack, column, modding the stub axles), making the mounts, exhaust, etc etc. It needs another thread really but a bare shell in primer and a collection of random alloy bits aren't very exciting!

The shells are the same. The bolt-up points for the lower valence of the front bumper are a bit off and new holes need to be drilled (or those 2 bolts simply ignored) but there are no structural differences to get in the way. Perhaps someone else can comment on the interior, but my understanding is that there was simply some rebracketing to accommodate the new layout of the X308, as oppsed to any structural changes to the shell (but I'm uncertain on this point)

That's what I was after. Small bracketry wouldn't worry me, its just the major suspension pickup points and things like that I'd be concerned about.

Anyone got any opinions on an 'ultimate street' spec XJR? I'm thinking:

Properly sorted standard suspension to keep the comfort/handling balance
Uprated brakes - X308 Brembos maybe?
Manual gearbox
A proper stereo - even the HK gear ain't all that these days
Fruity exhaust - maybe switchable flaps for full throttle!

No stupid bodykits, massive wheels or any other silly appendiges, just genuine improvements in the style of a proper Jag - grace, space and pace

The only question I would ask - what colour and wheels would it need? What do you think everyone?

Here's a rough shot of the Manta

Now we're talking! Oh, yes! Love your idea for a project! I'm especially interested what would be the best manual gearbox to mate up with those engines You pretty much want to build a monster sleeper, sir! And I love that idea! I'd love to get into a proper project, I have few things planned already, but lack of space is stopping me right now... I hope you'll get all the info needed here, there's several people who know their spare parts, and at least one person who knows a lot about the Jag ECU

I must have jinxed myself by looking at this shell. I've just been poking around underneath the car and it resembles a patchwork quilt unfortunately. Now, the sensible part of my brain tells me it would be more economically sensible to sell up and buy a better one. The Vauxhall owner in me tells me to take the stupid route and reshell. I just need some more positivity (Thanks FireCrow!) and I'll bite the bullet and buy the body!

It just so happens I'm building a new garage which would take the car and the shell side-by-side.

How cheap is that?! Obviously there's far more expense in paint etc, plus many many hours of work and no doubt lots of new parts along the way, but that's a crazy price. If you've got space, do it.

XJ8 X300 XJ6 V8 Jaguar OE Bodyshell Body Brand New | eBay

It's that manufacturing company making parts for Jaguars like the shock mount repair kit, so you might know them. Black... something or other.

$239.91 at today's exchange rate:

XE: (GBP/USD) British Pound to US Dollar Rate

Sorry to hear that. What about the private classifieds here. Sometimes it's a blown engine. When it gets down far enough you can show up with a cutting torch or angle grinder. At least it's reachable via highways ... no boat involved.

edit: or you could wait for a customer to tow in a vehicle where the repairs are too expensive at retail.

Hmmm... black Mustang with mags ... guess he wasn't a particularly cautious driver.
