Default x300 Engine removal - Any specific advice ?

Dear all,

Because of a failed piston ring on cylinder N°2, I will swap my AJ16 engine for another one.

See here for the previous post: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...3/#post1329666

I will have to remove the engine and transmission.

Do you have any specific advice for me ? I will remove the engine and transmission attached. But anything else ?

Thanks a lot for the help
Julien

if its only cylinder #2 piston rings, why don't you just fix it by replacing the piston rings ? its not that complicated and you will get the chance to change the cylinder head gasket and a chance to clean all internal components.

Its best to take everything on the front end off for easier removal of the engine: Hood, bumper, radiator, condenser, grill, ect. Good luck and best wishes on the swap.

Dear Cool,

I think I can not remove the sump of the engine and access correctly to the rod without lifting the engine out of the car. Am I right ?

And in total, it seems far more expensive to rebuild the engine head (machining + new gaskets) and more risky since I am not a specialist at all in engine rebuilding and it might not run well afetr all. I can get a good running engine for approximately 600$

Best regards
Julien

Dear knightofgold,

Thanks for the answer. I was fearing I have to remove all of that, and it seems the case

By the way, it will make the job much easier.

Best regards

Julien
