Red face X300 rear shockers

Morning all,

I have a question that someone may be able to answer. It is a bit "out there", which is where I usually live.

I have searched a fair bit, as that is the right thing to do.

Rear shockers on X300, I know heaps of info is on here about them. I am coming up for some?? due to the lower bushes on mine being SAD. The shockers are about 4 years old, fitted just prior to my ownership, using Genuine Bilstein.

I note that in my numerous parts books the XJ40 has a part number for the rear lower shocker bush, mmmm. There is NO part number shown for the X300???.

Has anybody had experience with this part, is it the same on both cars, most other rear suspension items are.

I know the shocker installation is different, (XJ40 has collets) but the basics look the same apart from the way the spring is mounted at the bottom.

As this is the daily driver I dont want to strip it and find I need shockers coz of a different lower bolt diameter or some other gremlin.

Shockers at $200+ each when only a bush ($25 each) is needed is silly, even to me.

Thanks in advance

The bush is available for X300, and it's the same as X308 - Part No. CCC6782. See here

http://britishparts.co.uk/products/7...r-bush-CCC6782

XJ40 bushes were just rubber from what I remember, where as these are more of a roller bearing type bush.

Thanks Brendan, i will do some shopping.

Pity as I have some XJ40 ones here as left overs, and they look like the "spherical" type bush of the later ones, its just that pin size I am concerned about.

Anyway, thanks again.

OK, that is the same part number as the XJ40, and is known as a "spherical bearing", so looks like I will be attacking this on the long weekend, damn.

Thanks again.

Is it difficult?

HA, nothing on the rear suspension is easy. I learnt that with the old cars.

I just been to "work" hahaha, they got a press, and the brain kinda woke up.

Put an XJ40 rear shock on the counter (from stock) and my "old" shock next to it, SAME.

OK the XJ40 has the ring thingy for the collets, but that will NOT interfere with the X300 set up. No one here lists aftermarket for the X300, only go as far as 1994 XJ40, and they are cheap enough, so might just stick em in.

Its early here, and the V12 is running sweet, as always, so I just might take a little time and do dome service catch up on the X300 over this weekend.

Yep.

Very few places here will employ a one legged grumpy old Jag person, with 40+ years spare parts experience, and knows how to fix things, hahaha.

I have fun, and 1/2million $$ of parts to rummage thru at any time I wont something on the weird and wonderful side.

I am surprised at how much stuff I find for this ^&%$ Rover resto. Beats making it.

Another was the a/c idler pulley for the X300, and it turns out to be the same as most Fords, and Commodores (down here cars), and CHEAP.

Do you need a new Rover 825s headlight housing?

Um NO.

This thing is a 1948 P3, 75 (6 cylinder), 6 light, BEAST.

Dismantled by HIM, nothing tagged, NO wiring, he pulled it out, thinking he could get one of these "new looms" and simply "plug and play", HAHAHAHA.

Engine/trans/diff all in boxes ready dismantled.

NO books of any real substance available readily to assist, so "brain strain" takes precedent.

It now looks something like an automobile, but a LONG way to go yet.

Fun is being had, and JD consumed frequently (thinking juice).
