Question X300 or XJ6 Sovereign

Hello fellow Jag lovers!
I'm quite new here, and wanted to ask a question. It may sound really stupid.

I've been wondering which car would be "best".
The Sport X300 3,2 (1995)
or
the XJ6 Sovereign 4,0 (1997)

Is far as I know, the XJ6 is a Daimler version.

So the real question here is, which one is the best and what is the difference between those two?

Different markets have different specs.

The Daimler is always the pick in MY opinion.

I have the 3.2 XJ6 and it is awesome.

The Sov in Jag or Daim spec get lots of little "extras".

Some (not all) include electronic telescoping steering column, memory seats in the front, premium sound system, mag wheels, metallic paint, 4ltr engine (not always), headlight washers, different spec carpet (some markets), different woodwork (some markets), and maybe some more.

Some of those "extras" can be a problem now with good old age, and some owners tolerate that, some dont.

Mine is the basic XJ6, with electric sets (no memory), manual steering column, cruise control, standard sound system, steel wheels with plastic covers, and is just fine, and nothing has given me grief to date.

Asking which one is best depends on your own personal requirements. I drive a 4.0l XJ6 Sovereign and I wouldn't swap it. I like the extras, the extra chrome around the doors/windows, the electric memory seats and the electric telescoping/ tilting steering wheel, also with memory. Little things like a half wood steering wheel and walnut gear knob are nice too!

True, these extra "gadgets" will present you with more things to go wrong as the car ages, but what won't?

The straight 6, N/A engine puts out plenty of power, especially when the kick down engages on overtaking, so I'll happily swap horse power for creature comforts. There are speed limits that I could easily surpass as it is, so why do I need more?

It's horses for courses I suppose. Just my 2c worth.

Sport is actually sporty.
The shock is firm, it has a rear anti roll bar and a limited slip diff which normal X300s don't have and makes the car much more active.

Sovereign, on the other hand, has auto cruise, traction control, chrome and stainless trimming, an engine with more torque and higher ratio diff than 3.2 which makes the high way cruising easier. If it is converted into Daimler, you would also get higher quality wood panels and Connolly Autolux seat.

If you want luxurious car, you should go for Sovereign. If you want a sportier car, you should go for 3.2.
But shocks and rear anti roll bar would be much cheaper and easier to install than the equipments which Sovereign has, so you can make "sportier Sovereign" after purchasing if you want to.

So if I were you I would go for Sovereign.

It's complicated. For starters, both vehicles were known as X300 by the factory. Some X300s were badged XJ6, some Sovereign (no XJ badging at all), some XJ Sport, some Daimler. Badges available varied depending on location - in North America the top spec was badged Vanden Plas, but in the Rest of the World it was Daimler.

This spreadsheet I put together on my website lists all of the options. See www.theJPster.org.uk.

Note also that non-Sport cars had sports suspension available as an option. My 3.2 Sovereign LWB has sport suspension, and hence the matching 16x8 Dimple alloys.
