I have what I suspect to be a bad ECU on my XJR, and I'm in the States. Will the UK model ECU work on my car? Are there any security discrepancies or anything to keep it from working? All the US ECUs cost way too much comparatively.

Pretty certain the non-US cars were equipped with immobilizer programming which would definitely cause issues unless you have a way of flashing or reprogramming a donor unit.

 

if i am not mistaken immobilizer programming is in the security module and not the engine module.

there are different part numbers and from my understanding the 2 most important factors are ensuring to get the correct one for XJR6 and that the last 3 numbers are the same.
one thing to note is i know the US has an EGR system which i don't know if UK had. i know AUS did not.

also to note even if they are interchangeable or you get a US module you may need to get it calibrated to run your car correctly.

 

The PROMS determine the part number and application.

 

Yeah the EGR stuff on the US cars appears to be model year dependent. My ‘95 does not have EGR, but does have the secondary air pump. I believe later cars had both.

 

Mine is a 95 and it's setup the same way, no EGR but secondary air pump
