XJ 6 Tire recommendations wanted
Hi all.
Looking for member reviews to aide me in a selection for new tires.
I like a quiet tire that handles the wet or dry road well. I don't care how long they last.
Thanks for any and all suggestions.

BF Goodrich Advantage T/A 225/60x16 V-speed rating, 98 load rating, 560 tread life rating
Good tires, quiet, no vices, does everything you'd expect and does it well, only about $100 each.
I had 2 sets and was very pleased
Cheers

I was in the mail order/wholesale/retail wheel & tire business for some years. You can't go wrong with Toyo. Great treadwear, quality at all price levels and they use very little wheel weight, even the mud terrain big ones. I had a road force balance from Hunter (GSP9700) and it would identify high/low spots on the tire and wheel. Toyo was consistently great. Yokohama too. Not to say other brands aren't quality but Toyo has been on our family's cars on a variety of performance levels for years. I do admit on my 2001.5 Audi S4 I ran 255/35ZR18 Yokohamas...I can't remember the reason.
With that said I've only rocked an X300 for less than 2 years and my experience with tires is much less than Doug's...

Jonny,
Glad you're safe (and your car too)!
I'm a big fan of Yokohamas. We're on our third set on our '93 (Advan S.4.) and I plan to put Advan Sports on our '04 when the current Pirellis wear out. Yokos are more affordable than Michelins, Pirellis, Continentals and Bridgestones, but have excellent ride comfort, low noise, excellent dry and very good wet traction, excellent handling and steering response, and they look good on the car.
Cheers,
Don

Not a fan of Toyo's.
Had a set of Proxes on a Supra ... really noisy and harsh. Swore off Toyo's.
Bought a used Jaguar and what did it come with? A new set of Toyo's.
Again ... noisy and harsh. And this set vibrates.

Remember, though, brand name alone doesn't tell the whole story. Every player out there offers multiple models. A Yokohama Double Performer Autobahn GT might behave quite differently than a Yokohama Super GT Tarantula Triple Tracker
Or, more seriously....
A BF Goodrich standard "TA Radial" is quite different from the BF Goodrich "Advantage T/A" which, in turn, is quite different from the BF Goodrich "KDW G-force".

Exact tires I have and I'm satisfied with them. I've put 18,000 miles on them in since I bought them 15 months ago and they are wearing very well, which is to say there's plenty of tread left.
The only issue I've noticed is that they tend to flat spot overnight. The Michelin Hydroedges on the car before these BFs did not - must have been a harder tire. I'm sure if I did more low speed city driving instead of highway driving right to my place the flat spotting would be reduced or eliminated, but I live where I live and work where I work.
BTW, the flat spotting is at its worst when there's a greater delta between daytime-nighttime temperatures, as would be expected.
I have Toyo 225/60 x 16s on a set of Daimler wheels (Chrome Turbines as in photo) which are excellent.
I have a set of Toyo 245/45 x 18s on Asteroids, excellent.
The XJR I bought has older tyres which are also OK. But it will soon have the Asteroids with the 245s on it.
Had some good Bridgestones - Turanza is a good 16" tyre if still available

As it went, I ended up buying Continental TrueContacts.
I looked at the tires suggested, btw, but the Contis had the highest ratings and
when it comes to shoes I buy the best I can find after weighing the pros and cons.
Thanks again, to all!

I have to wonder just WHAT ROLE my ABS had in my recent loss of traction and spin out-anti lock light was on ( ABS module repaired twice but on again ).
Will never know for sure, but I still wonder if there was any correlation to my loss of traction.
BTW, I installed an 'unrepaired', working, unit today. :-)
Now the only lights I'll expect for a while are one for Cat efficiency ( once every couple months- I simply clear the code ) and a rare coolant level indicator.
Cheers!

Probably none....unless you were braking when you spun out

FWIW, the '95 I just bought came with Michelin Harmony's. They seem quiet and comfortably and go around corners as fast as I want them to. Can't say I recommend them, but haven't found any obvious negatives about them.
Follow up. One of the Michelin's got a bad puncture and my 20 year old original spare barely held air to the tire shop. Ended up getting a set of BF Goodrich Touring TA as they were the only major brand in stock that day (at least that I'd heard of) and I didn't like the looks of the cracking on the Michelin's (guy told me they were likely 7+ years old despite the tall tread.
Normally when I get a new set of tires, even cheap, I notice a distinct improvement in ride. Not so with these. Not so say they were worse, but just that I didn't notice any difference.
I drove 500 miles that weekend (another reason I felt a rushed to get new tires) and found the ride comfortable. I got 25 mpg going and coming, and about 21 mpg tooling around Dallas.
We had our first heavy down pour yesterday and I had to drive through much of it on a 3 lane highway and 4 and 6 lane freeway and experienced minimal hydroplaning and felt comfortable driving on wet near the speed limit. I didn't notice I was driving faster than most of traffic (unusual for me). Don't know why traffic was slower, although it was coming down hard and I had put RainX on my windows a couple weeks ago so I didn't have trouble seeing either.
My gut is telling me I wish I had just gotten a spare and then some Pirelli's or Michellin's, but so far, I don't have any real complaints about them.

The tires i have on my 97' xj6 are fantastic. I have drove 1,500+ miles on my new set of Aspen Touring A/S' since the beginning of this month and theyre absolutely wonderful tires for the price, theyre soft and grippy and channel water extremely well. Being that i live in florida with the ridiculous amounts of rain we get this is an absolute must. And as for the grip, i do tons of auto cross events every month all over the state and these tires absolutely surpassed my expectations. Here is the specs
Aspen Touring A/S
Size: 225/60R16
Speed Rating: H
UTQG: 440AA
Load Index: 98
