hello everyone, I own a 1996 XJ6 jaguar. Overall a very nice car. I was at a local jag shop today because the other day my car was misfiring, I couldnt get the car past 50mph and it would jerk like crazy. Then when I reved the engine it would make loud popping sound from under the hood. So my check engine light came on as soon as that happened, and off I went the next day to a local jaguar repair shop. The mechanic there hooked up his scanner and told me that I had a misfire in 3 cylinders which are 3 4 and 5. So I left there and went to a friends house who has the same scanner as he was using which was the Innova 3110 and when we hooked it up I only saw 1 misfire code on there which read P0303 detected. Can anyone tell me if this code stands for 3 misfires, or is it just one. Thank you.

 

That code is misfire on Cylinder 3. However, suspect there is misfire on more than 1 cylinder for misfiring as bad as you describe.

 

thanks for the quick reply, how would I kow for sure if its more than one misfiring? I should test each coil with a tester right?

 

Swap coils and see if code follows coil, or stays with cylinder. P030X code, X signifies cylinder # from the front.
