Default XJ6 Power Steering

the pump for the power steering has started leaking and i dont really want to pay to fix it right now. does anyone know how hard it is to drive the car without power steering? and if so can someone please tell me how to disconnect it so the leak does not continue to grow worse.

without power steering, forget about using your steering wheel in a parking lot, or under 15 mph,

I'd try some stop leak first

I've had good results with the Lucas additive

yea, i wouldnt really recommend disconnecting power steering components. If fixing it isnt in your budget, which I understand, have similar problem with my XJR, the prices for the pump and/or rack are insane. I'd personally keep adding fluid until months down the road if you get lucky you'll eventually have to repair the correct way. At least that way your keeping enough fluid in the system safely not wearing down your pump even more.

Not to mention with power steering you'll still be able to park your car with ease at your local pub!

I use mobil 1 syn ATF in trans and power steering. dextron 3 or higher will always be fine and meet or exceed spec. And yes I too used Lucas power steering additive to totally stop mine from leaking, I hate changing them

with the lucas stop leak it says that it is made for helping rack and pinion seal leaks. Has anyone had any success with it stopping a leak in the pump?
