Hi

Car in question XJR (X306) with 273000 km in the odo.

As I am slightly paranoid; I am having some doubts that the engine is having big end bearing issues...

Video of engine idle :

the supercharger belt is off so the noise is not coming from there

Any ideas, opinions or suggestions? (Well outside of the obvious, if it is the big end bearings I am up the **** creek without a paddle; the availability of those is bit scarce )

Sounds louder towards the front, it seems. To my ears, at least.

Might be a pulley bearing noise....a/c compressor, alternator, water pump.

Or bearing noise from one of the idler pulleys. I had to replace all the idlers on my XJR over a period of time because of noise. I my case it was more of a grinding sound than knocking....but noises can play tricks.

Remove the other belts and have a listen

What sort of oil is in it?

 

Well I suppose it is
5W-40
Liqui Moly Top Tec 4100 as this is what the previous owner told me he had used.

I was planning to do oil and filter change this weekend just in case ...

 

well weird. With supercharger belt in place sound disappears at least to the extend my ears can hear.

I will post a new video when there is light back in the sky... basically next time in spring
