You're probably getting tangled up on that thin support rod which runs between the engine block and the inlet manifold.
What I do is remove the lower bolt (10mm wrench) and swing the support rod upward.
This allows much easier access to the filter

The typical service interval for the X300 cars is every 7500 miles. There should be a link to maintenance schedules here on the forum. The Supercharged cars did get a slightly revised schedule. But all-in-all, the oil changes were recommended every 7500. Timing and distance is up to you but should not exceed 7500 miles or 6 months, "whichever comes first" (per Jaguar). I do mine once a year because I put much less than 7500 miles on in one year.
