Default XJR Thermosta

Hi, I have recently purchased a 96 xjr which is great car, but have an issue in that the temperature gauge is very slow to move off cold and then will eventually get to about a quarter, but never really halfway. Reading can change fluctuate whilst driving too. I am leaning towards thermostat being U/S or a sensor ?
Also noticed that the engine fan is running when ignition is turned on and runs all the time, is this normal or has someone wired it to stop overheating ?
I am just used to my old XJ40 with the old viscous fan that engages when engine warms up.
Any help would be brilliant.

Agreed on the thermostat.

As for the electric fans there was a factory bulletin to change the wiring scheme. I can never remember if the operation you describe is "pre" or "post" the change. I'm pretty sure it was post change. Look for the two a/c pressure switches on the pipe near the firewall/bulkhead. If the wiring looks like it has been changed/bypassed, your XJR has had the wiring modofication.

Cheers
DD
