XJR6 updates
Hello folks,
So I have had my XJR6 for about 3 years now, and power-wise, I was never really impressed with it. Acceleration was exactly the same as my '96 XJ6.
The car is pretty healthy with good compression, new O2s, and it has always passed emissions test with flying colours with HC/CO/NOx levels well below the limit (for instance if the upper limit for passing was 200, mine would be 8)
I was planning on installing a boost gauge to see if it was actually building boost, or if the s/c was in need of replacement. I have done s/c oil replacement twice now as a part of preventive maintenance. By the way if anyone has any suggestions on the best place to insert a T fitting to feed a boost gauge, please let me know.
Anyhow, I figured that's how XJR6s were supposed to be, and learned to accept the car for what it was.
Fast forward to yesterday, when I brought it out of winter hibernation, and did some brief maintenance. Oil/filter change, transmission drain/refill, annual rear diff drain/refill, new airfilter, upper rad bushings, trans mounts, etc,...
While I was at it, I figured let's do the plugs. The old plugs were quite worn.
New plugs went in (Champion copper), and while doing the airfilter, I removed the MAF and cleaned it thoroughly using a MAF spray. Let it dry, and cleaned it more. It was quite nasty and I ended up using the whole MAF cleaner bottle.
All buttoned up, and this is no longer the car I remember. A simple spark plug and MAF cleaning must have unleashed a massive amount of horsepower that I had previously lost. Wow! Unbelievable transformation!
Long story short, sometimes little maintenance, and attention to things that may have been neglected over time goes a long way!
Next: Sunroof rail replacement, headliner, and a 3 stage cut/polish/wax treatment.

You've inspired me
I too find that I think my XJR should have a bit more "go" and all of the things you've got on your list, including in addition I plan to have the injectors cleaned, are on mine. I'm hopeful to have the same outcome.
Great to hear you met with surprising and positive results!

Make sure the intercooler plumbing doesn't have any air locks.
If the coolant level is low and/or there is no flow thru the intercooler and intercooler radiator you WILL notice a drop in power. A dead intercooler coolant pump is something to look for.
Remove the hex-plug at the front of the manifold/intercooler....do you see coolant?
Cheers

does the car have to be running?
will opening the hex "burp" the coolant in the intercooler?
Mine was "empty" until I started the car, then coolant started flowing at a rather high rate
