Default 1995 XJR6 Won't start

Hey there, fellow Jaguar owners! I'm stuck in quite a pickle right as my beautiful Jag won't start. The fuel pump works fine, battery has optimal voltage, and the engine cranks. Gauges were all reading at optimal levels prior to problems.

A little bit of back story. It was raining and my car was working just fine earlier today. Around noon I took my car to the car wash to get cleaned, and as soon as I pulled out of the car wash, it stalled. I started it again with no problems, but noticed a drop in revs, then soon afterwards it stalled again. I tried firing it up, and no start at first, but second time it worked. Then soon afterwards it intermittently stalled at random spots on the road. Now it doesn't start. I figured that maybe something happened with the car when I took it to get washed as it hasn't been working correctly since. Maybe I'm wrong, but I want to know what you guys think. My vehicle's mileage stands a little over 127k.

Hi mben456,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us, but I'm sorry to hear your Jag is misbehaving. Various problems after a car wash have been known to occur, so you are probably right to suspect that water ingress may be the cause of the problem.

It might be worth checking under your front floor mats for signs that water may have found its way into the passenger compartment. For example, the Engine Control Module (ECM) is mounted behind the outer scuttle trim or kick board in the passenger footwell. The Body Processor Module (BPM) is behind the passenger knee bolster. Below are a few Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) Jaguar has issued about water ingress:

I'm sure some of our knowledgeable X300 owners will offer some helpful ideas.

In the meantime, we're a friendly group, so please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jag and give you a proper welcome.

Cheers,

Don

I just went through the saga of my 97 doing about the same thing. Turned out to be the crank position sensor. Good luck with it

I will mention the classic signs to look for is the tach moving when cranking the engine? if it is the CPS (crank position sensor) is working, check the fuel injection relay its down by the passenger side head light should be energized when the ignition is turned on if both are working and you have good fuel pressure the engine should start and run.
good luck

Many different models have reported similar problems after a car wash/pressure wash/heavy rain. Most recover after dying out.

*UPDATE*

I got my car towed to our local Auto Skills center here on Fort Benning, and they determined that it's most likely the Crank Shaft Position Sensor like Superchargedtr6 was saying. I've already overnighted the parts and hopefully the issue will be resolved.

*UPDATE #2

I just installed the CPS and new Smog Pump on the car, but when I'm driving it down the road, it vibrates, and I hear a "whomp whomp whomp" sound from the exhaust. I suspect that either the car is out of timing or I have a misfire somewhere. I'm not sure, what do you guys think?
