If you discount a post that I made about Jaguar batteries last week you would see that it is about 4 - 5 months since my last post on this forum. The reasons for that have been a bit over the top. The obvious one is that the car hasn't been on the road. It has been parked up on our drive with no tax disk but with the officially worded doofah to say that it doesn't need to be taxed. It also has no M.O.T. but that is only because the driver's side rear light cluster needed replacing. Anyway, these little jobs hadn't been sorted out because I can't actually drive the car. That's because my spine is kerplunked and it has now got to the stage where my neck is very sore. It is only the thought of being able to drive the car again that keeps me going.
So today I was feeling a bit better so I went out to the car and changed the light cluster and refitted a fully charged battery (of the correct type) and sat myself in the driver's seat. The first thing that I noticed was that the red light at the bottom of the driver's door came on while the door was open. I turned the key in the ignition until all the lights came on and then waited a few seconds until most of them went out. Then I turned the key just one more stop and after about 3 seconds she fired up and ran smoothly for 12 minutes. At the beginning, she was running at 1200 revs but then she settled down and ran evenly at 800 revs.
Not bad for a 1995 car with mileage to match. lol.

Stevie,

WELL done.

I know the spine issue well, as mine is riddled with arthritis, and that is nice, NOT.

I believe the events with the Jag. Our XJ-S sat for 2 years, company car the reason there, and once required again, a NEW battery, some fresh fuel, a sip of nectar for me in the excitement, and first rotation of the mighty V12 and lthat glorious "burble" breathed out the exhaust once more.

These cars are a treat, and age means nothing. The lack of "looking after" and the endless short cuts all sorts of spanner people do is the main cause of issues.

Glad you are back in the saddle again, as we say in Texas. I to am getting up there in years with 78 behind me. I do everything I can to keep all the joints working and the plumbing functioning. Tennis a couple of times a week and 30 minutes on the tread mill between times helps. But even then now and again the old back and groin act up. Take care of your self along with your car. There is just no feeling like sitting in the cockpit of one even it is while enjoying your mornint coffee, or tee.

My father's 1928 Alvis will ALWAYS start so long as it has fresh fuel, even after 4 or 5 years. The occasional stuck valve, but that is easily sorted with a screwdriver once running.

My 420g was dry stored since 1979, got it home cleaned plugs, fresh fuel and hooked up strong diesel battery and it fired up after the 33 year hiatus! The mighty XK engine!!
