Hey, Guys and Gals;
Something new 2 me. My kitty over heated the othr day. Cooling fans dont come on, guage doesn't go all the way 2 hot, low water lite doesnt come on till empty. Becuz the guage didn't regstr, it ovrheated, blew top hose off goose neck and steamed a hole in the hood insulation.
This was a 1 owner car in beautiful shape, maintained by the jag dlr. 115k mi.The water pump was replaced by them, and I noticed a smell of hot coolant wen I bought it. Seems 2 be seepage frome somewhere. Water lite came on, put a little water in it and it was fine. Drove it for a few thousnd miles and--- great.
Then this.
Fan fuse is ok. I suspect a bad thermstat, but with the fans not coming on and the guage not registering hot, I'm a little confused.
Blindfold me, give me an old 283, 327, 350 and I can fix it--no prob. But these new-fangled computer controlled rides are a different story.
Thanx for any help/suggestions.

I would look at the temp sensor. Sounds like it may have failed.

Attached is a link to the oneline for the car. Look at figure 04.2 and you will see the wiring for the right and left radiator fans and the radiator fan control relay module. It also refers you to figure 07.1 on the A/C circuits. I would suggest checking the fuses and the relays first. I hope this helps!

THANX. Guys.
Found 2 fuses. 1 was blown. Fixd the fan (RT), It was BLOWN!! wud like 2 find out why. The former owner had a bag of fuses in the arm rest box and stated where they went. DUH! So theres a reason. 9fan) I suspect fan is drawing too much current. Also....does the same fuse controll some sort of relay that controlls water flow? I hear some kinda relay/solenoid sound fire when the fan is not running. ALSO....are both fans sposed 2 run @ same time or when?
Thanx again, Guys. U've been a GREAT help.
Steve

While there is small pump to circulate coolant to the cabin heater, as in most cars the thermostat controls circulation in the system. Both fans run with the AC on. Temp sensor in the multiport manifold connected by the short hose at the thermostat housing controls fans from an engine cooling perspective. As suggested above, the sensor is a likely candidate for the source of the problem. Easily checked with an ohm meter and easily replaced.

I suspect your problem is that the low speed relay is failing to run the fans in low speed, allowing the motors to start in high speed, which will blow their fuse. So, trace the low speed fan circuit.
