Interesting... I had a similar issue with random 'misfiring twins' with my xk8 (80k). It would only exhibit the misfiring, rough idling, & illuminated check engine light under very specific conditions. It took a hot restart on a cold day, then it would awkwardly idle for about 5 seconds. It was fine after that.

Replacing all the coils and plugs (at once), and resetting the MIL light cured it. I just ticked 100k the other day.

curious as to what the final outcome was is your "dancing" misfire codes?

Did you fix it or scrap it?

Although it has been 8 yrs... many would be interested in final outcome.

Was misfire situation fixed by:
Plugs?
fuel filter?
poor compressio?
timing chain adjustment?
