Default 02 xj8 cranks but no start

Hello everyone. I got this 02 xj8 from a friend. It had been sitting in his driveway for about two months with a no start condition. Once the car was flat bedded to my house I began to inspect. Car turned over fast like timing was off. Not being familiar with bore wash (this is my 3rd jaguar) in all my years of doing mechanics, I removed valve covers and the timing was perfect. Chains looked good and tight. To make a long story a little shorter, I thought I would need to get spark in order to address the bore wash. When if fact if you add a little oil to just the four cylinders on driver's side and reinstall the plugs. Put the gas peddle to the floor and crank it, it will start to spark and start. Mine did just that in like 20 seconds. When it starts you will have to run somewhere away from the smoke that will clear up as it runs. I was so happy when it fired up.

Bore wash has nothing to do with spark, it's a almost total lack of compression. That's why the oil works.

Well, there was no spark until I fixed the bore wash. Which I know has everything to do with compression. I simply thought there would be spark even if there was no compression. Just like when I pressure test a bad cylinder on a Toyota, there may be no compression but it is still sparking. So I appreciate you letting me know that the bore wash had nothing to do with it. And I would like to thank all of you for your help.

I suspect when he says "no spark" he means no firing of the cylinders.
