Question '02 XJ8 Weird Symptoms

Within the last 3 months we have had gremlins in our XJ. Codes from Transmission Failure to ABS Failure to Engine Safe Mode have been coming up at least once a week. The car does show physical symptoms as the light comes on. If I turn the car off-rest- and turn it back on all is fine. Do I have a bad ECU or are all these symptoms eminent? The car runs beautifully with only 54K. All maintanence has been kept up. Any thoughts would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Default Battery

The battery is at least 3 years old. No problems (obvious problems) with it unless it's tied to all the fault codes. Should I replace it? Thanks!

Not sure what you have going on but if it is not your battery, this may be a possible cause. We have seen several cars with poor electrical distribution connections. These are in the main line distribution feed to the fuse / relay panels as you can see in the attached circuit oneline http://www.gusglikas.com/images/Auto.../jagxj2002.pdf page 20. If you elect to check them (clean and reinstall) I would be sure that your power is first disconnected from the battery to prevent accidental shorting. This is not to say your problems will be eliminated it will eliminate one possible cause. If you elect to do this it is also a good idea to check the grounding connections and do not brake anything in the process. Hope this helps!

Thanks Gus! The car is from Chicago so there could be some corrosion issues. I'll check.
