1998 Jaguar Vanden Plas
Recently, I went to drive the car. It started fine, but when I put it in gear reverse works fine but not drive. While in drive I revved the engine a little and got a clunking sound and it went into gear giving me a transmission fault. Can anyone give me some insight into this problem? Had been driving fine with no transmission issues to this point.
The most likely problem is an "A" Drum failure. The model year is known to have a problem with the A Drum failing. Rebuild or replacement with a used unit is about the only option. The major symptom of the failure is the clunk in drive and no forward movement but reverse works.
