Been a long time since I've been here, but I currently own a 2001 X308 XJR that is amazing. Love the car, black on black. But I always loved the white interior and the look it has with the wood. I found one for sale that is dark blue (my fav and rare here) and with a white interior. But its a 1998. I thought that was the first version of the X308 and by 2001, that was the 2nd version. I could be wrong but does anyone know the differences between a 1998 vs a 2001? I heard maybe the timing chain thing was fixed by the end vs the 1998 where it was definitely something that had to be fixed at some point. I do know that if it's still currently running it basically had to have the timing chain fixed by now. But in general, what are some differences, if any, that I should look out for before I try to buy it?

 

The major difference is AJ26 (engine) in the 1998 and AJ27 in the 2001.

Things like Reverse Parking Aid and Rain Sensing were added to the later cars.

Hopefully people realize the problems with the Timing Components are have already rectified the fault.

Of the x308s, the 2003 Model Year seems to be the best of breed.
