1998 xj8 battery rating
These Jags are finicky regarding battery/voltage etc, the recommended battery is a 900CCA.
AGM batteries (absorbed glass mat) are a little more expensive but do have a longer life than regular lead acid batteries, plus they are zero spill.
.
And even 900CCA AGM batteries will succumb quickly to a hidden current drain. With no dash warning visible, a new Interstate 900cca AGM drained flat in six months. It was replaced under warranty as faulty but ... the replacement started setting off the security system in 4 weeks, at which point at "drivers door open" message appeared. It seems a faulty microswitch in the latch had been sneakily (until the last couple of weeks when the message appeared) siphoning off enough amps to slowly drain the battery absent a charger/maintainer or driving the heck out of the car. I hadn't been driving it all that much so a solar trickle charger will be my solution, along with a bit more regular use.
I'm with Carnival Kid: get the biggest, baddest, strongest battery you can lay hands on, and pay close attention to it.
