Default 1998 Xj8 paint type

Does anyone know what type of paint was used on the 1998 Xj8? I'm looking to get the car repainted and the guy I got my quote from said the car was painted with lacquer paint. I don't necessarily believe that as I thought they stopped using lacquer around the late 80's.

Any insights would be appreciated.

There are TSBs (the one's that nobody reads) that have the answers to many of the questions on the forums.

Jaguar posted this one several decades ago.

I think you have a misunderstanding of the term "laquer" in the post solvent based paint era. Modern Jaguars are CoB (Clear over Base) where base is the colour and clear is the laquer finish that imparts the gloss.

You can have them use two part urethane for both base and clear coat. They should, of course, use a barrier coat.
