I put ignition switch in 1998 xj8 from a parts car I have and car wont crank if I put the actual Key transponder unit and put and plug into my car( take old KTM OUT) would it communicate w my key

Your forum profile and previous posts refer to your 1996 XJ6. Have you changed this for a 1998 XJ8 or, as you have posted this question in XK8/XKR is this XJ8 ignition switch going into an XK8?

i switched transonder and has same switch but car astill wont crank HELP!! 1998 xj8 all dash lights on radio works headlights interior lights do I have to switch that ring about the switch ??

 

I didnt the guy I bought it from switched it with another 1998 xj8 because he lost keys LOL

 

I sent my 1996 xj6 to scrap yard after months of hard work and a 1600 bill I decided it was time to go! I only have the 1998 xj8 and have nor driven it yet --wont start

 

Now that we've determined you have a 1998 XJ8, I've moved you threads from XK8/XKR (X100) forum to XJ8/XJR (X308) forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

A MATCHING Key, Key Transponder Coil and Key Transponder Module are essential for it to start BUT I think the SCLM (Security and Locking Module) could also have a part to play.

Need to know if the problem is that the car will not crank or it will crank but will not start. A no crank could be a number of things and need to know what you have going on. Do you have fuel and spark? This link should help to guide you along.

I put transponder module from parts car which matched ignition switch and I have the key exciter ring also but never installed it.NOT SURE HOW?? the one Key ring is still hooked up but didnt realize its like an antenna that reads my key?ITS A NO CRANK I HEAR A SINGLE CLICK NEAR PASSENGER side under dash when I try to start it. Everything works other than that lights radio windshield wipers seat heater and steering whell movement so its definitely a no crank!!

 

what is the key transponder coil??
and I suppose the security module is the issue?? or both
