'00 Jaguar XJ8 Vandan Plas - Sunroof Reset Issues
I have a 2000 Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas - we recently changed out the headliner and along with it the head liner on the 2 parts of the inside sunroof. We also fixed the drainage part of the sunroof that was stuck back under the main headliner in the process - during this process with 100% removed and took out the entire sunroof assembly and did all of the work on a work bench. When reinstalled the sunroof will close to about 1 inch away from closing and then move forward about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch and stop, I cannot "bump" it forward from hitting the button anymore, it just stops there. I found this procedure on this formum below but have addtional questions:
Sunroof Reset procedure: (Additional Questions below)
With the roof in its closed position, at rest:
- Key in the ignition, turn to the On position:
- Press and HOLD the sunroof button forward, as if you are going to tilt open the rear of the sunroof.
- Continue holding for 20 seconds.
- Release the button and immediatly push and HOLD the button exactly the same way in the same direction (forward to tilt open) and continue holding.
The roof should flip up and down, then slide back all the way, then slide forward all the way, and finally stop in the closed position.
- Release the sunroof button only after the sunroof has stoped the cycle in the closed position.
My questions:
1. is this even the right procedure?
2. The only way I can get the roof to the "tilt" position, is to manually use a screw driver and turn the motor until it is fully open. However, as soon as I start this procedure above it moves vs, holding in place for the 20 seconds and goes back and I am right where I started - do I manually get it there? Turn off the car, restart then start the procedure (thought of this last night after trying it multiple times)
3. Dumb question, what is considered the foward button vs. the reverse button, when the control is on the car - is the forward the one nearest the front window? Just checking all potential issues.
4. Any other thoughts on what I need to do to correct?
FYI.... I did verify that the motor is in place correctly - was never taken off of the frame. However the position sensor - did pop off and was reinstalled after doing alot of manual movement of the door during putting the headliner on the 2 parts of the sunroof door. Below are also pictures of the motor and the sensor in the unit as a point of reference. This is not out of this car.
