Bought car used - the women explained the shifter problem as being hard to move into gear- she was a stout gal and continued to force the unit to get her to work. Now it wont move at all . I have disconnected it at the tranny and it is clearly seized. The brake lockout solenoid works properly too. I have ordered a used cable from Coventry West. My question is this - the tranny was in a default or limp mode when I drove it home- is there anything I should watch out for when I install new cable- ie should I just try to drive it or is there any thing to reset in tranny???

Thanks for the help- just installed new shifter cable - reverse works great ! Forward gears seem to slip - is there any way to reset the tranny after it has gone into safe mode or is the unit junk?

There's adjustment in the two big nuts that lock the cable to the side of the selector, these have to be in the sweet spot or 'gearbox fault' appears. Best way? Axle stands and tune it in.
Other than that, try a hard reset. Gearbox may also require some fluid. If it doesn't respond to any of this, then you can start considering the 'junk' assessment...
