I've moved your question from Jaguar Forums Advice / Feedback & Suggestion Center to X308 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

PLEASE NOTE: the Jaguar Forums Advice / Feedback & Suggestion Center is for posts about the forum and NOT FOR TECHNICAL QUESTIONS.

Remove the air filter housing assy and alt mounting fasteners.

Jaguar warranty time is .8 hours (plus drive-in/drive-out).

It is NOT difficult.

I actually keep a rebuilt in stock as I am seeing alot more of these failing lately.
I RARELY replaced them when I was at the dealer but these cars are getting older.

Hello Bob....so, you suggest it's OK to pull the alt. up rather than faff about underneath? ;o]

You still need to disconnect/unplug from underneath a little I guess. I use a car lift so I am under and on top for most jobs.

It's harder to pull it down.
Actually the only thing you need to do under the car is to remove an air duct. It is possible to disconnect an alternator while a vehicle is stanging on the ground.
-Disconnect a battery
-remove ait filter housing
-Remove radiator fans (don't mess with bolts - if you try to install a longer one you will damage a radiator. Actually an upper alternator bolt looks pretty much the same as a fan bolt, but a little bit longer)
-remove an air duct
-remove a belt
-loosen a lower alternator bolt
-remove an upper alternator bolt
-using a pry-bar, move an alternator away from engine and disconnect positive lead and regulator wires
-remove lower bolt
-remove an alternator
Reverse all of that for assembly
