I replaced my fuel pump on this car about 4 months ago. NOW, I'm having to replace it again. Someone said that I should have changed the wiring harness or the module on the wiring harness. I recently switched fuel pump from pic 1 to pic 2. Pic 2 shows the one that is on my 98 XJ8 which doesn't have the module on the wiring harness. My question is "should I remove the module."
PS. After installing the new pump yesterday the car ran well for about an 1 hour then stopped and would not start. I took the fuel tank out and tested the fuel pump. It does work. I'm gonna reinstall a new one to see what happens.

The modual may be referring to a electrical noise suppression device in the wire at the pump connector
From my understanding no all XJ8's have this
As the original pump fails it will damage the fuel pump relay and is suggested to be changed
You can jumper the fuel pump relay from socket 3 to 5 ( in the pic M. Stojanovic made )with blade type connectors if no relay swapping options
the electrical connector at the fuel pump will also get burnt and cause pump shortfalls
The Crankshaft position sensor enables the fuel pump relay operation and has been known to get metallic filings on the face of the sensor interfering with the signal , not enough for a complete failure to give a code but enough for a sub system like the fuel pump relay control to not see the signal well enough
Jumpering the relay will give you some evidence that this may be the case
