Hi everyone. semi-Nube here.

I am getting a P0705 code set. I observe shift indicator lights go out when occours with a gearbox message. Seems to be worse after cold soak. i'm thinking a linear switch issue? Maybe loose dirty or out od adjustment?

I guess console must come out to access?

I work on XJ8 all the time. Just not familiar with this XJR setup(trans).

I took console out. All was tight in shifter area. Removed Linear switch and disassembled it by removing three screws. Cleaned contacts and mating surfaces with contact cleaner. Slightly increased contact point tension. reinstalled and adjusted, Problem resolved.

If anyone ever needs help with this drop me a note.

Thanks for posting your fix. I saw there was a tech bulletin on this, but thankfully I've never had the issue myself (yet).

Good work!

Update:
Linear switch started giving me more issues. Not as many gearbox faults. Started having P1517 and crank no start. Park/neutral malfunction. I got one off a 2002 Super V8 that will go on Monday.

Installed linear switch out of a salvage 2002 Super V8 today. So far no dreaded P1705 or P1517. I think I nailed it. I just think the 2000 models had an issue. I know there was a TSB about it.
